Some ideas were cool. That was before modern shooters were a thing, so FPS where you don't run like mad to get bettter accuracy, positioning and else - was refreshing.Didn't beat it, because one of the main bosses (two brothers - champions) was hard as nail.Decade later, today, I got copy of DRMfree (seriously, StarForce creators are living dastards) game, even if it's not most recent version (get 1.3 patch).But whole impression went upside down. Last time my PC was not powerful, game has lower framerate and it was way easier to shoot these dodging soldats?I was also shocked when I found that enemies can walk on ladder. Noises that sound like radio crackling when you walk... all the guns sound the same... I put the game down when Heard computers making generic cash till sounds. I must say I really like the game, but that's just me. In my opinion this is a very good old school shooter, with a decent story. Although not too hard even with the highest difficulty. The ''boss'' battles are fun, but are they hard? That depends on who ''boss'' you choose to fight. You can also buy a mercenary to help you out, but imo they kind of suck. I just usually leave them safe and go fight the enemies myself. I havent tried the multiplayer, but since the game's kind of old, I'm not sure there's anyone to play. Right now I'm doing a playthrough for the game in youtube.If I have to rate this, I'd give it 8/10. Not a bad game this one. It might have gone down in history books as a mediocre game but it's ambition is quite obvious as soon as you start playing it some more. You play the role of a soldier in a all-out war on planet Earth. There is a twist to this though and that is that war has been made into a sport with bets and thus there are components such as making bets against mid to end level-boss opponents - and then trying to win those bets - while doing actual missions that are mostly 'go here, overrun this position or building while escorting engineers and blow up target x'. You need to manage your funds closely as you need money for ammo and repair stations. Go broke and you will have lost the game. There is a lot of things going on in the game and lots to do. Interesting places to visit and interesting people to kill. It's average quality though in many areas is probably why this is not that well known. There is one really weak component too and that is the B.O.S bet-fights as they range from unsatisfying '10 seconds and opponent is dead' to plain dumb fights where the environment itself is a big problem or then the player selected equipment just isn't the 'winner' for this particular fight. Most annoying though by far is the time limit combined with the unbelievable trash talk. for example a sniper enemy that evades you the whole fight and who carries a recharging energy shield so you dump unbelievable amounts of lead on the poor sod and then he is saved by the clock. 'Yeah i knew you were a ♥♥♥♥♥ who can't win me' -type of trash talk follows. In worst cases there is a forced reload if the B.O.S opponent is the final opponent on a map. This is more than an annoyance as this is central mechanic to the game and for me it almost sinks the game. It's ambitious mechanics and fun missions gameplay with customizable loadouts and running around sometimes in mechs is fun and the main reason i still consider this a pretty decent buy if you are interested in this type of gameplay. Beware though of mediocrity in everything.
